Several months before starting the Online Learning Readiness Program, I bought a computer from my nephew. I thought I could use it to get going again. Even though I had no idea how to use it I felt everything these days has some technology tied to it. You need some knowledge just to be able to participate.
Well, needless to say, when I received the thing I didn’t know how to use it. I would turn it on and get a blank page, switch to another program and I’d get the same thing. My nephew offered to help, but you can’t always depend on someone else whenever you run into some difficulty. My grandchildren would try to help as well by getting me online and trying to show me how to get out of the confusion I found myself in.
Luckily, that’s when I found out about The Timothy Smith Network and the OLLR program. The program is perfect for someone who needs the discipline of a classroom with the ability to learn independently with online and other resources.
You would think that basic computer knowledge is all you get, but you get so motivated when you also get the support and encouragement of your classmates; the direction and support of our instructors as well as the leadership at the South End Technical Center, all of which provided us with an encouraging learning environment.
I want everyone who run OLLR, and other programs like this, to know how grateful we are for them. Without these programs some of us would have no other resource for learning about the technology we need today. I personally look forward to taking more classes with you.
